Bio
Jungwon Yeo, Ph.D. is an Associate Professor and Graduate Program Director in the Department of Emergency and Disaster Health Systems at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. Her research focuses on advancing human security and community resilience in the face of disasters and crises. She investigates collaborative dynamics among government agencies, nonprofit and private organizations, and civil society, with particular attention to the roles of behavior, accountability, risk, communication, ethics, leadership, and diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in shaping public service delivery during both emergencies and routine operations.
Dr. Yeo has authored over 50 scholarly publications, including peer-reviewed journal articles, editorial commentaries, books, and book chapters. She has also delivered more than 100 presentations at academic conferences, invited workshops and lectures, and keynote events. Her research has been supported by multiple national and international funding agencies, including the U.S. National Science Foundation and the UK Economic and Social Research Council. She currently serves as an Associate Editor for Natural Hazards Review and the International Journal of Public Sector Management, both leading journals in her field.
Additionally, Dr. Yeo holds leadership roles in several professional organizations: she serves on the Board of Management for the International Association of Schools and Institutes of Administration, is Chair-elect of the American Society for Public Administration (ASPA)’s Section on International and Comparative Administration and is an Executive Board Member for ASPA’s Sections on Emergency and Crisis Management and Korean Public Administration. Her academic experiences include international visiting professorships and research fellowships at institutions in China, Lithuania, and South Korea.
